Be The Better Diabetes EducatorÂ
“Getting to the core of resistance
and motivation for sustainable
Behaviour Change” to help &
support your clients in managing
diabetes
A skill based exclusive training event focusing on increasing your “skill inventory” so you can increase your confidence in teaching & counseling your clients to better manage their diabetes.
Hosted and presented by professionals & Certified Diabetes Educators.
A variety of topicsÂ
Carefully selected topics that focus on enhancing your skills in managing your clients living with diabetes
Managing your clients living with diabetes is all about “CHANGE” and change can be hard. Hence all topics included in this event will support you in supporting & moving your client/s forward in the “CHANGE” continuum.Â
Pattern Management
As diabetes educators we often encourage our patients to monitor blood glucose (SMBG) & use glucose pattern management as a tool to interpret the patterns to help & support patients achieve their glucose goals. Seeing the effects that increased activity or modified carbohydrate intake can have on lowering glucose levels is a powerful motivator for patients and reinforces successful behaviors.Â
Early detection of retinopathy
Early detection of signs, symptoms and treatment of diabetic retinopathy can prevent any complications or diabetes related blindness. There are simple ways to diagnose the problem and prevent vision loss for your patients.
Teaching adults
The learning process of adults is considerably different from children. When children learn they are amongst students of their own age & usually to impress parents & teachers. However when it comes to adults, they choose to advance their skills or knowledge. They come with life experiences & that impacts the learning process.Â
Health Literacy
Health Literacy is defined in the Institute of Medicine report, Health Literacy: A Prescription to End Confusion, as “the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.”
Motivational Interviewing
MI is a style of conversation to steer a person towards change. It involves organizing the conversation in such a way that it naturally directs the person to consider their own reasons and ideas about that change, which are often more powerful than our own.
